Vittorio Monti
6 January 1868, Napoli (Italy) - 20 June 1922, Napoli (Italy)
Composer of the Czardas for Violin and Orchestra.
He was born in Naples; Italy where he studied violin and composition. In the 1900s, he got an assignment as a conductor in Paris where he wrote several ballets and operettas. With the Hungarian-style Czardas, it was the most important success of his professional life. Czardas was originally composed for either violin or mandolin and piano.
As it became popular, arrangements for all kinds of ensembles became available and it was played by almost every gypsy orchestra. Summing it up, for many people it is the essence of the old Hungarian dance, with its comparison of fast and slow music. Monti is remembered by few today, but everyone will be familiar with his music here - making him a true immortal.
