It’s been awhile since I last blog, so I thought a venue I can start blogging again is to review restaurants. To begin I will start with a restaurant I’ve been on 2 occasions: Harvester Lowry in Salford Quays, UK.
During my first visit in May 2012, we had a main course and a dessert. The main course was fairly average quality, but the dessert was terrible. Our sundae came melted and liquidity. When we confronted the manager to change it, the manager challenged and insulted our knowledge about how a sundae should be. In the end, we decided not to eat it and just pay the bill. At this point, the manager decided not to charge us for the sundae, which turned out to be a fair settlement.
Today, 23 Dec 2012, was our second visit; we thought we should give it a second chance. This round we only had main courses, and the service was as slow as ever, and the food was fairly average again, but the salad does not seem fresh. Furthermore, my partner complained her lamb was raw, which the waitress took it back to the kitchen for further cooking.
My verdict for Harvester Lowry in Salford Quays, UK in 2012 is as follows:
1st Visit Ratings | 2nd Visit Ratings | Avg. Ratings | |
---|---|---|---|
Service | 3/5 | 3/5 | 3/5 |
Freshness | 3/5 | 1/5 | 2/5 |
Taste | 3/5 | 3/5 | 3/5 |
Value | 2/5 | 2/5 | 2/5 |
Cleanness | 3/5 | 3/5 | 3/5 |
Overall | 2.8/5 | 2.4/5 | 2.6/5 |
Recently, I had been facing with constipation issues for the past few days. I remembered the last time I had this problem I had a cup of coffee and I managed to resolve the issue. So I tried it again today, and it really works! This is the second time this has happened to my system and I am amused by it. I would like to declare that I am not a regular coffee drinker, but I do consume coffee whenever I need it; such as when I need to burn the midnight oil, may be now even constipation!
I did some research on the Web about my problem and found that there are mixed opinions on this issue. Some suggest that you should avoid liquids containing caffeine - i.e., coffee or cola drinks. Others also reported the same experience that I do.
There is definitely a contradiction in suggestions from the National Digestive Diseases Information Clearinghouse (NDDIC) and the reports of Health effects of coffee on Wikipedia. So what is happening to my system? Why some others and me have these experiences, while some professional institution suggest differently? I would like to hear your views about this matter, and experiences you have with constipation and coffee, and if you are of a medical profession, I also would like to hear your input on this matter.
Do you know what is this dish? Here's some clues, it has prawns, noodles, and some vegetables in a special type of soup. It can only be found near Chinatown in Singapore. Do you know what is it? hahaha...
Although I am back in Manchester already, I will still continue to blog about my adventures in Singapore. Today's post is about Mee Pok Tar (see photo above). This is one of my favourite dish too! I've just realised that you can't really see the Mee Pok from the above photo. Anyway it is hidden underneath all the goodies. I've also order two additional Fried Fish Cakes to go along.
You can enjoy this fabulous dish at 216-G #01-03 Syed Alwi Road Singapore 207799
One of the things on my "Things to do" list was to satisfy my Satay craving. This time I've ordered some pork Satay, and the thing I like about this store is they have prepared it the traditional way! The sauce on the right is the Satay peanut sauce. And of course how can I miss the pressed rice to go along with this dish. Yummy.
I had this wonderful dish at an Ang Mo Kio hawker centre; Block 453a, unit #01-215
